This is a well named plant. It is very showy and difficult to not find beautiful. A. speciosa is a perennial plant in the Apocynaceae family and is known for exuding a milky latex when cut (hence the common name milk weed). This particular species is native to the mid-west and west of the united states. Many milkweeds are food for Monarch Butterflies, making these plants pretty famous.
A. speciosa has clusters of pink/purple flowers. The leaves are also just fun, big and really leafy. The leaves have a petiole (stalk connecting the leaf to the stem). Once the flowers are fertilized, the plant grows a large pod that eventually dries and opens to reveal seeds attached to cotton-like substance to help them get scattered in the wind.
